How do we turn our climate anxiety into action?

"How do we turn our climate anxiety into action?"

An incredibly poignant reflection in Friday's The Green Innovation Revolution.

As part of UK Tech Week, UKBlackTech brought together some of the brightest minds in sustainability and technology at Aura Innovation Centre.

Here’s what we learned:

The day kicked off with an introduction from Phil Benson, Co-Founder of UKBlackTech, about the wonderful work they're doing to promote, represent and encourage the continued growth of diverse tech innovation across the UK.

Key moments from The Green Innovation Revolution

Some key moments that stood out:

"How do we promote a culture of responsibility around our usage of AI?"

Dr Julius Sechang Mboli showed the impact AI is having on our planet in terms of emissions and water usage.

By 2040, AI data centres are predicted to reach 14% of global emissions, while training GPT3 is estimated to have consumed 700,000 litres of freshwater.

Technology and the circular economy

Afterwards, we heard from Matt Houldsworth, tech innovator and expert in RFID. Matt spoke about the circular economy and how brands must see it as an opportunity rather than an obligation.

He demonstrated how Verbili’s RFID tags not only deliver key sustainability information to smartphones, but also engage customers in a brand’s story and reduce dangerous counterfit products.
